Dr Charmaine Chung is a retinal specialist with particular interest in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Retinal diseases such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

She graduated with First Class Honours from the Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney. After further study she was awarded a Masters of Public Health with Honours.

Dr Charmaine Chung did her general ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital, which included experience at most of the large teaching hospitals in NSW, as well as rotations through regional and country hospitals.

She furthered her interest and experience in retinal diseases during a Medical Retina Fellowship at Westmead Hospital in Sydney. As a research investigator clinician, she was involved in the recruitment and active treatment of patients for several large, international research trials. These trials were directed at finding new treatments for retinal disease including vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. She has extensive experience in the latest techniques to diagnose and treat these diseases.

Dr Charmaine Chung has authored several scientific papers published in international ophthalmology journals. She is committed to individualised patient care and collaborates with general practitioners, optometrists and other medical specialists to achieve the optimal outcome for each patient.

Dr Charmaine Chung is a Fellow of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists.
